“Queen Elisabeth and Asbestos snow”

ENG: Durational performance of 4 hours and 15 minutes

While I was on my residency in Monfalcone at a sail-making enterprise I wrote four poems about capitalism and the miscommunication it causes between the workers (a huge communuty of the workers are from Bangladesh, and there are also a lot of ex-Yugoslavian immigrants) and the Italian citizens.
We translated the poems in four languages: Serbian, English, Italian and Bengali.
I wrote them on the leftover materials we got from the enterprise and together with the audience we stitched them together in a new sail.

In part II of the performance the sail will be attached to a boat that will sail from Monfalcone to Trieste, where the big cruisers go.

“Queen Elisabeth” is the name of one of the important cruisers made in Monfalcone, designed for rich European travelers. Asbestos snow is a reference to the asbestos poisoning scandals that follow the region.

The translations were kindly done by Hossian Kawsar, Cristina Miatovich, Elisa Giordano and Mirjana Karanović.
